Strata Design Studio was established in the early 2000s when I first became an individual practitioner in building design.
After graduating from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design and a Minor in Energy Resources (passive solar design), I began work as a building performance specialist. During my early career, I investigated and provided technical solutions to building shell problems for homeowners groups managing common-interest subdivisions.
During the 1990s I first became involved in preservation projects involving historic resources, and later became a project manager for Dill Design Group of Los Gatos, where I was able to focus my attention on projects involving both commercial and residential buildings – utilizing the skills I have developed in building conservation. I was project manager of the Villa Montalvo roofing and arbor rehabilitation project, experience that enabled me to successfully execute a restoration design for the historic Saratoga Foothill Club trellis-pergola project this last year.
I have been working in the field of architecture and building construction now for over 25 years, am licensed in California as an architect, and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). I am listed with the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS) as a Historic Architect, as I meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards to conduct work with historic resources.
Currently, I collaborate on historic property investigations as an associate with Archives & Architecture, LLC, and conduct my own architectural design consulting work as Strata Design Studio.
